Lowndes County Board of Commissioners Wrap Up Annual Planning Meeting
The Lowndes County Board of Commissioners met for the second and final day of their 2021 annual planning meeting, beginning the morning with general discussion items followed by presentations from department heads including engineering and planning and zoning.
The day started with general discussion items on topics such as affordable housing. There was also discussion on opportunities for elected officials and other leadership from across the community to meet for the purpose of enhancing relationships and collectively addressing needs in our community.
Following general discussion items, department heads from engineering and planning and zoning presented to commissioners on upcoming projects. Engineering presented on upcoming road paving and widening projects while planning and zoning discussed county growth patterns and future land use patterns.
“We’ve seen tremendous growth in the unincorporated areas of Lowndes County over the last 3 years,” said Director of Planning and Zoning JD Dillard. “As we plan for the future and expand our road projects and utilities infrastructure we want to ensure that we are providing a quality of life that balances our rural agrarian nature and future as a metropolitan destination in South Georgia”.
“Our annual planning meeting has been significant because it has allowed the commissioners to discuss topics together for as long as needed and also hear from department heads on current and future projects and set goals,” said Chairman Bill Slaughter. “We feel the goals we’ve set will continue to help move Lowndes County forward and be a great place to live, work and play”.
