The Lowndes County Board of Elections was created through an act of legislation and functions under the direction of the Secretary of State of Georgia. The Lowndes County Grand Jury, under the direction of the Chief Judge of the Southern Judicial Circuit, appoints the Board of Elections.
The board is comprised of 3 members, appointed for staggered terms of 3 years. Each year, in May, 1 board member position opens and a board member is appointed. The board serves Lowndes County on a part-time, as-needed basis.
