CodeRED Weather Warning is an early telephone warning system designed to automatically deliver targeted weather notifications for the immediate threats of severe thunderstorm warnings, flash flood warnings and tornado warnings within moments of being issued by the National Weather Service (NWS).
CodeRED Weather Warning will deliver a pre-recorded alert message directly to your phone(s) if you are in the projected path of the severe weather. The system automatically sends these notifications 24 hours a day, 365 days a year providing you the needed time to prepare. This becomes even more critical if a tornado comes through our area during the night, when television, radio broadcasts and sirens are ineffective.
CodeRED Weather Warning uses new polygon warning methodologies based on “Storm Based Warnings” direct from the NWS and contacts only those in the affected areas, eliminating many false alarms. By eliminating the need for human intervention to activate warnings this system significantly decreases the response time for fast moving storms. In addition to weather warnings, the Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency can utilize this system to notify citizens in the event of a non weather emergency such as evacuations, hazardous materials incidents, etc.
To opt-out of receiving future severe weather warning notifications on your telephone, visit the Notification Opt Out or call toll-free 800-566-9780 from the telephone you would no longer like to receive calls on. Please note notifications are specific to your location and are determined by the National Weather Service. Opting out will remove you from receiving any future severe weather warnings on your telephone.
If you would like to opt out of receiving text, email or other types of notifications, please email Emergency Services.
