Fire Chief Billy E Young Jr

As a lifelong resident of Lowndes County and following in his father’s footsteps, Billy’s career in the fire service began in 1992 as a volunteer firefighter for Lowndes County at the Clyattville Station.  In 1998 he became a career firefighter with the City of Valdosta Fire Department.  Billy has had the opportunity to serve in several roles in the fire service.  After serving in Tift County as the Deputy Chief of Training, he was able to return home to Lowndes County Fire Rescue as the Deputy Chief of Training in 2021.  In 2023, Billy was appointed as the Fire Chief of Lowndes County Fire Rescue.  

Billy has a bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management and an associate’s degree in Fire Science.  He serves on the Georgia Mutual Aid Group as the Area 2 Coordinator.  He earned his Georgia Fire Chief certification through the Georgia Fire Chiefs Association.  Billy is also certified as a Certified Emergency Manager.  He is also a member of Georgia Search and Rescue Task Force 2.  

Billy and his wife Charney have three kids Charlly, Carragen and Corbin.  They are members of First Baptist Church Lake Park.
