Lowndes County Encourages Citizens to Remember the Fallen
Lowndes County, Georgia – As Memorial Day approaches amidst the social distancing requirements brought on by COVID-19, a reminder that life is precious and that one well lived should be honored, is more apparent than ever before. As home to countless veterans and their families, our community genuinely understands the depth of sorrow associated with the loss of a military member. To us, they are so much more.
This year Memorial Day will look different than in the past. Similarly, it should feel different as well. A reflection of sacrifice, an attempt at understanding the conditions under which our soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and coast guardsmen execute their missions, and an affection for the pride with which they served, should be the topic of our conversations and substance of our hearts.
While there may be no public gathering opportunities for us demonstrate en masse our commitment to honoring their service, we should remain faithful to their memory and dedicated to a time that we can once again come together to observe the debt of a grateful nation.
It is with heartfelt support and compassion for the families, fellow veterans, and friends of those lost that Lowndes County remembers the fallen this Memorial Day.
