Clay Griner was born and raised in Lowndes County. Clay graduated from Lowndes High School in 1993 and graduated with honors, Magna Cum Laude, from Valdosta State University in 1996 with a BBA in Finance. He has worked full time for Griner Automotive since 1996 in several different capacities. He is currently Vice President of the company.

Clay is married to Mendi Griner and they have three children: Mary Claire, Ellie and Thomas. His wife, Mendi, teaches Spanish at Valwood and is the President of Insta-Lube. Insta-Lube is a local company founded by her father, Marvin Ray. Clay and his family are active members of First United Methodist Church in Valdosta.

Clay believes he can use his faith, education and business experience to help Lowndes County grow conservatively and maintain fiscal responsibility. He also believes governmental cooperation between Lowndes County and its municipalities, Valdosta, Hahira, Remerton, Dasher and Lake Park, is essential for Lowndes County to continue to grow and to keep its leadership status in South Georgia.
