Titling Vehicles
Below you find a listing of documents required for initial registration of a vehicle or trailer. The cost of registration is $18 up to 90 days after sale, and it will increase to $28 after 90 days of sale.
Models 1986 or Newer
Newly acquired vehicles years 1986 or newer require the following documentation:
- Georgia drivers license
- Georgia insurance
- Georgia title
- Other supporting documents indicating a name change, inheritance, liens, etc.
Normally a dealership or lien holder will apply for the title and send / give the receipt to the buyer. Bring this receipt, along with insurance information to us so that we can either issue a new plate or transfer an existing one.
Models 1985 or Older
Newly acquired vehicles years 1985 or older require the following documentation:
- Bill of sale, including VIN number, date of sale and signatures of both buyer and seller
- Georgia drivers license
- Georgia insurance
- Georgia title (If available)
Out of State No Lien
Out of state titles without a lien holder require the following documentation:
- Georgia drivers license
- Georgia insurance
- Out of state title
Out of State with Lien
Out of state titles with a lien holder require the following documentation:
- Complete name and address of the lien holder
- Current out of state registration because the state of Georgia doesn't recognize and/or both parties on the registration must be present to sign
- Georgia Drivers License
- Georgia Insurance
Military Personnel
Non-resident active duty military members need all of the same information as above, with the exception of the Georgia drivers license. Both documents must be presented to renew registration:
- Military ID
- Most current LES
Foreign Purchased
Title from foreign country require the following documentation:
- All over-seas registration documents
- All shipping documents
New Lease
Titling a newly leased vehicle requires the following documentation:
- A Power-of-Attorney authorizing your signature for the leasing company
- Georgia drivers license
- Georgia insurance
- Title reflecting the leasing company's name

Out of State Lease
Titling a out of state leased vehicle requires the following documentation:
- A Power-of-Attorney authorizing your signature, for the leasing company
- Georgia drivers license
- Georgia insurance
- Name and address of lien holder (If applicable)
- Out of state registration or title in the name of the leasing company (When applicable)
Trailers Under 2,000 lbs.
Trailers with gross vehicle weight under 2,000 lbs. require the following documentation:
- Bill of sale with VIN number or previous owner's registration
- Georgia drivers license
Trailers Over 2,000 lbs.
Trailers with gross vehicle weight over 2,000 lbs. require the following documentation:
- Georgia drivers license
- Manufacturers statement of origin or title
No Serial Numbers
Homemade trailers or trailers without serial numbers require the following documentation:
- "T-plate", county issued VIN number (Received at the local tag office)
- Return the T-22B to the tag office and receive a license plate
- T-22B (Received at the local tag office)
- T-22B must be completed by a law enforcement officer.
